I cannot believe how quickly it is has gone; our big day seems like ages ago – plus, we’re now closer to our honeymoon in Sicily than we are to our wedding day!! Crazy!!
Married life is great. I said to my friend recently when she was in a stress about her wedding, that crossing over to the ‘other side’ is AMAZING – all the pressure is released and you feel normal again. There’s no worries about organising things (and organising other people!), you have friends/sisters/cousins instead of Bridesmaids again, and issues with the wedding that seem massive at the time seem like nothing at all now!
Weddings will NEVER be stress free; there are far too many people involved for everything to go smoothly, but there are some ways you can reduce the worry!! So here are my 5 top tips!
Make a budget based on what you can afford – you most probably will go over what you originally wanted to spend, but don’t spend more than what you can afford to. Paying bills and putting fuel in your car is far more important than getting a reel of ribbon! However, if there is something you REALLY want, work out areas you can cut so that you can afford it. I wish I’d have spent more on my photography; my photographer was lovely, but you can tell they weren’t taken by someone who’d been taking wedding photos professionally for 10 years.
Only spend money on things that will either be used (i.e. food), or you know you can sell afterwards (i.e. faux fur shawls from winter weddings) or something that you’ll use in your home. All the decorationy bits I bought for our wedding I will use throughout our house so I can justify spending slightly more on something I really love.
Dont let the wedding turn you into a bridezilla; you hear so many stories about people falling out over something petty. The wedding may be your world, but it’s not everyone else’s. Take a step back and think about how you’d have felt pre-engagement about matching ribbon to bridesmaid dresses!
Don’to let people rail road you into decisions you don’t want to make. One of the areas I was most disappointed with was my bridesmaid dresses; they’re everything I didn’t want. And when I look at the photos I have to look past them. The girls looks nice in them, but they aren’t what I wanted at all.
Include your fiancé! Yes, some of the ideas Dan came up with made me cringe in the run up to our wedding, but he also came up with some really good ideas, and things I might not have thought of or dismissed. It’s only fair to let them have their input in a day that is about the BOTH of you!!
Now my big day has been and gone (both a ‘wahhh’ and ‘yay’ feeling) I am starting to write my wedding report!
For those of you who have not heard of these before, it is basically a detailed account of the wedding planning process, with links to suppliers, tips and hints etc – imagine one of my Real Bride articles and times it by 10!
Because I was engaged for A VERY LONG TIME, I will be releasing our story in ‘chapters’ over the coming weeks so that I don’t bore or bombard you with it all in one go!
The majority of the text is written already because my shiny new husband has had to go back to work this week (definitely a ‘wahhh’ feeling) and so I’ve been twiddling my thumbs! I haven’t got any photos back from my photographer yet so I shall wait for them before I release any articles!
We are off on our mini-moon on Monday, so I will definitely share some photos with you when we get back!!
Here is a sneak peek of a photo from our first morning as Mr & Mrs!
We don’t look half bad considering we went to bed at 1am and the cleaners at our venue woke us up at 5am!!
This is my first ‘married lady’ post for the Live, Laugh, Love, Marriage blog! Woo!
So it has been just over 48 hours since my HUSBAND and I tied the knot, and it has been go, go, go ever since! What I will say for now, is that the weather was PERFECT, the dress was VERY uncomfortable, but the day was the most wonderful mix of amazing and emotional moments!
I’ll explain our big day in more detail soon and share lots of photos as soon as our photographer sends them over to us, but I just wanted to check in, say hello and let you know that I’d made it to ‘the other side’!
Happy Christmas!! I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas Day with your friends and families, and big hellos to anyone who got engaged over the last couple of days!
In two days I will be getting married!! I cannot believe how time has whizzed by over the last few months! And my big day is almost here!
Tomorrow I will be heading over to our venue with a car full of decorations (plus we have roped in the Father and Brother in Law to help) to set up our venue ready for our wedding. Hopefully I will be able to share a few sneaky pictures with you all before I leave to go to ‘the other side’!
